J, again great job creating another extremely realistic and compelling piece! I think the best parts of this drawing are the hand holding the exacto knife (wow) and the amazing pencil sharpener. I love that you drew a little stick figure to add some story and comedy into the drawing.
I would love to see your reference image for the macro component of the piece as it is very abstracted (is it your hand? the texture on the exacto knife?). Definitely an interesting take to overlay the macro and micro in one drawing and I think it works well. I am conflicted on whether the ambiguity of the macro aspect is just right or needs to be worked on a bit further. But overall, amazing job.
Thank you so much!! All of that is very high praise coming from you, and I really appreciate it. 😀
I could definitely provide a reference, but I worry it wouldn’t be as exact as I’d like it to be. I worked from observation for the micro texture, so a couple of things may have changed or would be difficult to capture on a photo. It makes me happy to hear that you’re not sure what it is, though! I was worried it would be too obvious
The texture, value shading, and composition of this piece are awesome. I love how the full drawing of the hand is inset into the bottom left corner. The behavior of light on the surface of your hand and the x-acto knife are stunning and warm, and combined with the fuzziness of their contours they almost seem to glow. The texturing of the micro drawing is also gorgeous to look at, and all the various swirls and strokes feel super balanced while still looking very interesting. Great work!
Terrific follow through in this drawing. Following up on the crit from last week, I would erase the few marks on white inset paper so that the illusion of two drawings is certain. Taking a paper towel and lightly smudging the graphic marks of the palm of the hand might soften and darken the texture part of the drawing as well. That is an optional change and not necessary at all. Excellent work!
This is so beautiful!!! I love that you merged the two drawings into one. That little stick figure is my favorite. I think the facial expression is the storyteller of this drawing. Also, I love how abstract your macro is, I didn’t know it was your palm until you mentioned it. Terrific work overall!
